Getting ready for Kindergarten

15 SUMMER SUGGESTIONS--getting ready for kindergarten-- 

1) Making patterns out of indoor and outdoor materials 


2) Lots of counting everywhere, blocks, rocks, toys, cars, ducks on a pound ect... 


3) Recognizing neighbourhood signs and what they mean 


4) Recognizing letters, words and numbers in the neighbourhood


5) Sharing books out loud together. Noticing what parts of the books repeat, talking about new words, noticing words that rhyme


6) Keeping a drawing journal of fun summer adventures, sharing the drawings outloud with someone at home 


7) Playdough, painting, drawing, singing and dancing


8) Making art projects with your name, cutting and gluing


9) Lots of outside play, running, jumping, hoping, skipping, kicking and catching balls, riding bikes or scooters


10) Helping to create a packing and/or grocery lists


11) Explore different versions of the alphabet song


12) Lots of talk about sounds letters make as you notice them in names, words in books and other personally interesting examples


13) Talk about feelings and giving feelings names. All feelings are okay and there to feel. Handling feeling in productive ways, promotes health and wellbeing. 


14) Enjoying time with family, recognizing interests and personal talents


15) Developing good morning and bedtime routines
